#Formula1_bh #Bahrain ASHKANANI TO LEAD PORSCHE GT3 FIELD AT F1 WEEKEND

Defending champion to return to BIC to showcase skills at Grand Prix spectacle

BIC, Sakhir – Newly crowned champion Zaid Ashkanani will lead a full grid of the region’s most talented racers in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East’s exhibition round, set to be held in support of the 2014 Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.

The Formula One weekend will be taking place April 4-5-6 at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir. It will be marking BIC’s 10th anniversary race, which will be held at night for the very first time.
Porsche GT3 Cup organisers have released the provisional entry list for the meeting.
The field of participants is expected to grow as things continue to take shape as the days count down to the highly anticipated Formula One weekend.
All eyes are set to be focused on Ashkanani. The young but supremely talented Kuwaiti just recently captured the 2013/2014 drivers’ championship following the season’s sixth and final round held earlier this month at BIC.
Ashkanani is set to be joined by a large number of other top drivers, such as the Bahraini trio of Shaikh Salman bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Shaikh Jaber bin Ali Al Khalifa, and Mohammed Mattar, who will all be looking to put on a fine show in front of their home fans.

Also taking part will be Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum and Saeed Al Mehairi of the UAE, along with top Saudi talents Faisal Bin Laden, Fahad Algosaibi and Fawaz Algosaibi and Mohammed Jawa.
The rest of the participants on the provisional entry list are Alain Muraour of France, Kai Riemer and Hannes Waimer of Germany, Antonio Giancola of Switzerland, Charles Frijns and Rob Frijns of the Netherlands, Manfred Ender of Austria.
Two Porsche GT3 Cup races will be held over the course of the weekend. Race one will take place on the Saturday (April 5), followed by the second sprint on Sunday (April 6) before scheduled 6pm start of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The Porsche GT3 Cup exhibition round is one of two support championships taking place at this year’s Bahrain Grand Prix. The other is the GP2 Series, which will be holding its first round of the 2014 season at BIC.
Aside from the racing, there will be plenty to enjoy off the race track for the entire family.
The fantastic entertainment programme will be highlighted by three concerts featuring world-renowned artists, including Saudi pop star Rabeh Saqer who will be performing on the Friday (April 4) of the race weekend. It will be followed by back-to-back performances on Saturday night (April 5) by legendary rock band The Scorpions and superstar DJ and producer Avicii.
Only three-day ticket holders will be able to attend the concerts.
